Leather Viking Thumb Cup

Based on a find from excavations in York. The cups are 100mm (4 inches) high and 25mm (1 inch) in diameter, made with leather that is roughly 1.5mm thick and dipped in pure Beeswax to seal them.

Suitable for cold drinks only.

The cups are fully immersed in molten wax so that they can soak it up, this means that the wax cannot flake off and the liquid only touches wax. They are also stitched using a technique called 'Tub Stitch' which leaves little to no stitching visible from the inside of the vessel. Combined with the wax this technique seriously reduces the chances of a leak, even if they take a knock! If your vessel should spring a leak take a hairdryer to it and gently melt the wax to seal the leak again.
